We Are All The Same

Brought to you by www.WhatAboutJesus.com

You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized

into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek,

slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. - Galatians

3:26-29

People like to be different. Some strive to be different by exceeding all expectations

in order to set themselves apart from their peers. Others try to be different by

the clothes they wear, the tattoos on their arms, and the way they style their hair.

But as much as people like to be different, there are some things in which they

don't like to be different. For example, people usually don't like to be treated

differently when it comes to receiving a paycheck or a bonus. We aren't too happy

when we learn that a coworker is getting paid more to do the same job. Children

have little built in radars for this kind of difference. It's expressed in their

objections: "That's not fair! How come he got a big ice cream cone!" Being different

only goes so far.

Thankfully, when it comes to a believer's status as God's child, there is no difference.

Through faith in Christ Jesus we are all the same in God's eyes. We are his "sons".

Even though we deserve to be cast away as disobedient problem children, God has

shown us mercy. Through the waters of baptism connected with his saving Word, God

forgives our sins and clothes us with his Son – Jesus Christ. These clothes

that we are given gleam with perfection because they were won by our Savior's holy

life, earned by his death, and guaranteed by his resurrection from the dead. Now

when God looks at you, he doesn't see someone who has mumbled terrible things about

others behind their back. He doesn't see someone who continually struggles to put

God first. He doesn't see someone who has been impatient with their loved ones or

downright rude and unloving to a spouse. Instead he sees Christ. He points his

finger at you and says, "Christ!" He looks down at his believers and says, "That

one is perfect like Christ! And that one is perfect like Christ!"

This means that we are all the same in God's eyes. It doesn't matter if you have

been a Christian your whole life, or if you became a believer yesterday. It doesn't

matter if you are from the United States or Iraq. It doesn't matter if you are a

man or a woman, a teenager or an adult, well-off or dirt poor. What matters is faith

in Jesus Christ. What matters is the perfect sacrifice that he offered for you and

all people. What matters is that through Christ you have been credited with righteousness

and given all the rights and privileges that come with being God's child.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, help me to rejoice in the truth that through faith in your

Son you have clothed me with his righteousness. Remind me of your awesome power

in baptism that has brought me into your family and made me your child. Give me

eyes to see every other believer as your redeemed child and help me to treat them

with love as you have loved me. Amen.
