FEARFULLY MADE

Proverbs 3:19-20

By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place; by his knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew.

We Christians find comfort in the cross of Christ, in the knowledge of sins forgiven and in the sure hope of eternal life. The objective truth of the Gospel – that sinners are declared “Not Guilty!” in Christ – gives us confidence to face the challenges of every day life.

Solomon reminds us of another source of comfort and confidence – the power and wisdom of our God that brought the universe into being. From tiny insects to vast galaxies, God made it all. From gravity to the earth’s rotation on its axis to its orbit around the sun, God ordered it all. From precipitation to evaporation, from deep oceans to tiny streams, God put the water in its place. Everything fits together perfectly. Everything works together perfectly. Nothing happened by chance. Nothing occurs randomly. Everything had to be just so. The God who laid the earth’s foundations, the God who set the heavens in their place, the God who divided the deep water, the God who can send a single drop of dew is our God. If he has the wisdom and power to not only create the universe but to also keep it running – and he does – then certainly he has the wisdom and power to order and maintain our lives. We believe in God the Father Almighty and in him we put our trust everyday.
