Pastor Steve Helwig was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1973. He was baptized in the name of the Triune God and became a member of God’s family on January 28, 1973.

Pastor Helwig attended grade school at St. John’s Lutheran in Two Rivers, WI and Trinity Lutheran in Minocqua, WI – where, in 8th grade, he was also confirmed.

Pastor Helwig attended high school at Martin Luther Prep School in Prairie du Chein, WI, college at Northwestern College in Watertown, WI and seminary at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI.

Pastor Helwig served his vicar year (his third year of pastoral training) at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bremerton, WA. During his final year at the Seminary, he taught senior religion at Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School in Jackson, WI.

In May of 2001, Pastor Helwig was assigned to Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit, MO where he served as pastor for 7 years. Pastor Helwig was called to Gethsemane Lutheran, Omaha, NE in the spring of 2008. He has been serving here ever since.

Pastor’s wife Carrie is a blessing to both him and his ministry. God has blessed them with five wonderful children – Hannah, Benjamin, Emma, Nathan and Sophia. As a family the Helwigs love the outdoors. They love to go camping. They also love to get the boat out on the lake for an afternoon of swimming or an evening of fishing.
